The Center for Excellence in Family-Finding, Engagement and Support is proud to sponsor a first-ever, in-person symposium dedicated to the urgency for and benefits of kin-first, family-centered culture within the children's system of care.

Kin-first culture exists when every system that engages with families and children has adopted policies, practices, trainings and accountability structures in partnership with families that require every effort be made to keep children safely at home and, if a child must be removed from a home, to partner with the family to figure out where is the safest place within that family for the child to live. The primary goal of a kin-first system is to partner with families to keep children connected to their communities, family, culture and tribe. Kin-first culture gives families and communities the opportunity to heal from trauma together.

Our symposium aims to advance racial equity, strengthen our most vulnerable communities and preserve the vital connections between children, youth, families and communities.

This symposium will feature the transformational potential of a kin-first culture, discuss implementation possibilities, share best practices and more! We invite you to join us to learn from statewide and national experts as we discuss how to stop the separation of children from their families and communities, and instead keep them connected to those they love.

Who Should Attend

The symposium is designed for leaders and practitioners serving the Child Welfare System of Care, including child welfare, probation, behavioral health, tribal communities, resource families, bench and bar and Wrapround. If you are interested in becoming part of this transformational practice, please plan on attending!
